Pledge To Demand That Our Votes Must Be Counted

Fair elections are vitally important to our country and I ask my fellow citizens to stand together in demanding that our legally cast votes be counted this year before anyone is declared a winner.

Because the pandemic has caused an unusually high number of people to mail their ballots, more than twice as many in Ohio alone, it is possible the winners cannot be accurately declared on election night as there may be many ballots that still need to be counted. We must be patient with the results and vigilant against misinformation.

Here is my pledge to demand and ensure that voters who followed election rules have their votes counted:

  1. Any media source or candidate that declares a winner before a sufficient number of votes have been counted will not be accepted nor tolerated.
  2. Any media source or candidate who declares that the election was fraudulent or invalid must provide specific details of the evidence and scope and scale of the issue.
    • If the allegations are overly broad or unfounded, it will not be accepted nor tolerated.
    • If evidence is provided, it should be taken seriously, but the reaction should be proportional to the scope and scale of the issue.
  3. After being presented with data and reasonable consensus for the winner of an election, any candidate who does not accept the results of the democratically chosen outcome will not be accepted nor tolerated.
  4. If a sufficient number of votes are counted and the winner is declared fairly, the outcome will be accepted as the choice of the people, regardless of which candidate won.

This is a pledge to uphold the United States Constitution and our representative democracy, and to safeguard our country from dictatorship from any present or future candidate. This a nonpartisan position, as it applies to candidates from both parties and every office up for election including local, state and national candidates. It applies to every media source, including cable and print news, but also comedians, entertainers, YouTubers, and even friends on social media sharing posts in conflict with this pledge. Upholding our democracy is a solemn commitment and is not to be taken lightly.

Our country needs to overcome the divisions, unrest and uncertainty of this year and a fair election is so important to keep our United States together. Will you join me in this pledge?

In accordance with the values listed on our about page, I will not hesitate to publicly condemn any person of power or influence who goes against the tenets of this pledge.
